It’s not unheard of for new college students to feel like they are walking alone into an unfamiliar environment with an overwhelming pressure to succeed. Engineering student Hunter Hakala was no stranger to these feelings as he entered his freshman year, but thanks to his experiences with Texas A&M University’s Engineering Academy at Blinn-Bryan and the Zachry Leadership Program, he thrived in a strong community of like-minded individuals.

AZZ Inc. has established two fellowships in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University. The AZZ Inc. Faculty Fellowship in Materials Science and Engineering and the AZZ Inc. Graduate Fellowship

Many students partake in summer internships, study abroad trips or various other experiential learning opportunities offered by the Texas A&M University College of Engineering. An interdisciplinary team of students have combined nearly all of the categories of opportunities into one experience: conquering the Shell Ocean Discover XPrize Challenge.

Dr. Vladislav Yakovlev, professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been developing a more efficient way of propagating light through an opaque medium. Propagation of light refers to the way that light travels from one point to another, in this case, through a medium, such as human tissue.

研究ers from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University are spearheading the development of an interdisciplinary soft matter research user facility.

Texas A&M University researchers have developed an intelligent model that can predict a potential vulnerability to utility assets and present a map of where and when a possible outage may occur. The predictive feature allows the trees in the most critical areas with the highest risk to be trimmed first.

Payman Dehghanian, a graduate student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, recently received a scholarship from AACE International (formerly the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) for demonstrating outstanding academic success. He will receive $2,500 for the 2017-18 academic year.

A paper “Aeroelastic Analysis for Highly Flexible Flapping Wing in Hover,” authored by Xuan Yang (first author), Aswathi Sudhir, Atanu Halder and Dr. Moble Benedict, won the best paper award in the “Modeling and Simulation” session at the 2017 American Helicopter Society Annual Forum.

Jaskirat Batra, a graduate student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, was selected as the 2017 Montgomery Award recipient for his work in starting a highly impactful student organization and his commitment to helping other graduate students succeed.

The Texas A&M Cybersecurity Center held the inaugural GenCyber Teach the Teachers camp June 19-23. The GenCyber program sponsors summer camps across the nation designed for elementary, middle and high school teachers that focus on engaging learners with sound cybersecurity principles and teaching techniques.

Dr. Daniele Mortari, professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, has been elected as a corresponding member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA).

Dr. David Schechter’s research group has developed a new type of simulator that better illustrates and predicts the effects of these techniques. This robust simulator draws on data from laboratory experiments and combines it with known geologic data on fractures.

Ask any 10-year-old what they want to be when they grow up, and chances are “an astronaut” is likely near the top of their list. For Michayal Mathew, a junior in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University, that dream never faded with time. Spending much of his childhood in League City, Texas, Mathew visited Johnson Space Center so many times he memorized each exhibit, acting as his own tour guide. This summer he is one step closer to fulfilling his dream of one day going to space — at least virtually.

Currently, 3-D printed parts are very fragile and traditionally used in the prototyping phase of materials or as a toy for display. A doctoral student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University has pioneered a countermeasure to transform the landscape of 3-D printing today.

Finding ways to increase the comfort and care of premature babies and help elderly patients live more independent and safe lives were the spotlights of the latest Aggies Invent.
